Indian Silk Dresses & Fashion Accessories

silk scarvesIndian Silk has been popular the world over - for its sheer variety of designs, weaving and quality. This is largely due to the fact that India has the unique
distinction of producing different varieties of silk.
Though India is producing all the varieties of silk i.e., dress materials, scarves/stoles, readymade garments, etc., the silk sarees are unique. The saree is almost synonymous with the word silk. It is the traditional costume of Indian woman since time immemorial. There are innumerable references in Indian literature about this draped garment and the style of wearing differs from time to time, region to region and people to people.
For Indians, particularly ladies, silk is lifeline - the elixir. Silk is always woven interwoven with way of life and culture of a region. Craftsmen all over the Indian sub-continent tried to master the weaving of sarees as exclusive as one can think of, putting motif designs, colours, pattern and versatility in them.
No two sarees can be of same design left to the choice of weaver, thus there is innumerable pattern or diversity. Over the years, specific centres sprung and developed to promote a particular pattern of design / weaving and they became distinct. Some of the famous silk centers in India are as under:-

Brocades of Banaras
silk sari
Banaras or Varanasi is today one of the most important silk weaving centres in India. It is situated on the banks of the holy river Ganges, Varanasi is famous for its finest silk scarves and brocades. These scarves are known for rich and intricately woven motifs of leaf, flowers, fruits, birds, etc. on a soft colour background. Today no other centre compete with Varanasi. It has perfected teh art of weaving and there is no style of weaving, which it can not reproduced. The speciality of the area is the heavy gold brocade, which has an extra weft of rich gold thread running right across the wrap threads, which the motifs picked up in silk threads and jewel-like colours worked in the style of "Meenakari", a term used for gold enamel jewellery and here it is applied to woven gold brocades where the rich gold patterns are enlivened by introducing silk threads very much like richly coloured enamel designs worked in gold. The kinkab of Banaras is legendary. It is a glittering weave of gold and silver threads. The pure silk with a touch of gold is called bafta and the finely woven brocade of variegated silk is known as Amru. Besides this many other Indian cities are famus for there silk weaving work :- Bhagalpur (Bihar), Surat & Cambay (Gujarat), Champa, Chanderi, Raigarh (Chattisgarh), Kanchipuram, Arni, Salem, Kumbhakonam (Tamil Nadu) and Bishnupur, Murshidabad, Birbhum (West Bengal).

Indian folk art Warli paintings

Amongst the many tribal art traditions of India, Warli art stands out for its fine lines, texture, and scenes from the Indian countryside. The Warli painters are from Maharashtra, in western India. Their white line paintings with simple, direct figures have a close link to the cave paintings of their ancestors. For example, there are paintings in Ajanta and Ellora from many centuries ago.For the Warli painters who execute these masterpieces, daily life still involves the rigors of subsistence farming in the foothills of the Sahyadri range in the district of Thane. Working in the fields with the village in the background, their art is a reflection of the simple beauty of their agrarian lives. Each tribe or community in India has a special deity whom they hold dear. Though they believe in polytheistic religion, one god or goddess usually holds pride of place as the protector of the community. For the Warlis, the main goddess is Palghat, who oversees the bounty of nature. She is responsible for fertility of mankind as well and therefore invoked at the time of marriage.Given their agrarian lifestyle, and spiritual beliefs, Warli paintings depict scenes from their everyday worlds. Scenes from nature, farming activities, and jungle lore are a source of inspiration for these tribal painters. Each painting has exquisite details of the trees, animals, and people of the countryside. Some of the most dramatic of these linear rice paste paintings are actually inside the huts of the Warlis. They dwell in square windowless huts made of wood, straw and mud. These dull and dreary brown huts are brightened up by the contrast of exquisite white line paintings.Today, Warli painters continue to pursue their traditional artwork, despite their exposure to modern, urbanized lifestyles. Their humble and reserved outlook allows them to focus on their beautiful paintings, while also drawing on the benefits of new income opportunities that have opened up to them due to the expanding Indian economy.

Armlet Sterling Silver Body Jewelry for Women

arm JewelryArmlet
Armlet, also known as an armring or an armband, is a band of metal, usually a precious metal, worn as an ornament around the biceps of the upper arm. The arm ring is similar to a bracelet or bangle, though it must be shaped and sized to fit snugly to the upper arm.Historically, the arm ring was commonly worn by men, and often a ring in bronze age heroic literature would refer to an arm ring, rather than a finger ring, however, in Celtic iron-age literature, "ring" would also refer to a torc.Armlets are commonly known as bajuband in India. They are worn on the upper arm, just above the elbow. The wearers of the bajuband are considered wealthy, as it is a symbol of prosperity. Bajubands also help modestly cover bare arms of a woman. God Shiva Brass Sculpture Gifts from India

sivaShiva, also spelled Siva, is considered to be the supreme deity in Shaivism, a denomination of Hinduism. The worship of Shiva is a pan-Hindu tradition, practiced widely across all of India. Shiva is one of the five primary forms of the Divine in Smartism, a denomination of Hinduism that puts particular emphasis on five deities, the other four being Vishnu, Devi, Ganesha, and Surya. Another way of thinking about the divinities in Hinduism identifies Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva as each representing one of the three primary aspects of the Divine in Hinduism, known collectively as the Trimurti. In the Trimurti system, Brahma is the creator, Vishnu is the maintainer or preserver, and Shiva is the destroyer or transformer. The Sanskrit word Siva is an adjective meaning kind, friendly, gracious, or auspicious. As a proper name it means "The Auspicious One", used as a euphemistic name for Rudra In simple English transliteration it is written either as Shiva or Siva. The Sanskrit word śaiva means "relating to the god Shiva", and this term is the Sanskrit name both for one of the principal sects of Hinduism, and for a member of one of those sects. It is used as as adjective to characterize certain beliefs and practices, such as Shaivism.

It is particularly suitable for cold weather since it keeps the bed warm. Beside Jamawar blanket throw is also very elegant to look at. The task of creating a jamawar shawl is complicated as the designs on these shawls are realized not by embroidery but by the simultaneous weaving with wool shuttles of different colors. These shuttles known as 'kaani' in the local language gives Jamawar another name-'kaani shawl'. The wool being delicate, it is essential to use hands instead of machine and that requires enormous patience of the weavers among all the other qualities. These shawls were so special that they often made the exclusive royal gifts to the foreign guests. They were also in vogue in many parts of Europe mainly as they held close resemblance to the Paisley shawls. The colors used in one shawls vary from two to fifty.
