In Uttar Pradesh, Saharanpur is famous for its wood carving in dudhi or white wood and shisham, while Farrukhabad is well known for its extremely fine and deep floral carvings onwooden printing blocks. Nagina, in Bijnor district, is the centre of a graceful style of ebony carving traditionally done by Muslim craftsmen. Here, "Jewelry Boxes, tables, chairs, baskets, picture frames, walking sticks and other such articles turned out richly chased by a delicate and crisp surface ornamentation that is purely floral....". More recently the artisans have turned to producing carved combs in all shapes and sizes, often studded with ivory dots inlaid in the dark ebony surface.
